About Me

Hi and welcome to my blog. My name is Jeremy Chivers and I decided to write this blog as an aid for me on my way to discovering the various VMware technologies other than just ESXi.

My general background

I live in the Britain in a town called Swindon which is between london and Bristol. I have been married for 5 years to my wife and we have been together for nearly 11. I have three beautiful daughters of which two are twins. The twins are 4 years and my youngest is 4 month old.

My spare time is taken up between looking after my family, research new technologies, studying for upcoming exams and watching films and tv series (mainly sci-fi stereotypical I know).

Looking back I owe my entire IT career to my mum Maria Chives who when i was 16 suggested I take some computer courses at the local college and after completed them I never looked back or have even considered an alternative career. Thanks Mum (@

My technical background

I have been working in IT for over 15 years working my way up from a 1st line help desk role to working as an Senior IT Consultant (@ Exaclibur) in the Wintel/VMware technology space.

For the most part of my career I have focused on Microsoft Operating Systems and MS based Applications. I have installed and configured many large scale Active Directories and Exchange deployments workings with Windows from NT4, 2000, 2003, 2008, 2012 and Exchange 2000, 2003, 2007 2010. I have configured and deployed networks for 5000+ users located across almost all the continents of our planet.

I was first exposed to VMware in 2006 on version 2.x (@ Apex Computers) but moved companies before I could get heavily evolved with the technology. It wasn’t until 3 years ago that I was reintroduced into VMware and installed the first ESXi cluster into the company I was then working for (@ Patheon Pharmaceuticals) the solution was an eye opener to me as to what product could do and I attended an install and config course and quickly booked and passed my VI3.x exam

Over other the last few years I have been working in various roles and have always tried to incorporate a VMware solution where possible. My current role allows me to recommend VMware based solutions to various sized customers from SM’s to Enterprise clients. This varied client base gives me great expose to the various VMware technologies not just those in the SM space but also in the enterprise space and vice-versa.

Current personnel objectives

I am currently reading up on all things VDI as I find this a fascinating area which can only grow over the coming yeas.

Start blogging to help others as others have helped me.

I am also studying for various Microsoft Windows 2008 and Exchange 2010 exams as I look to update my Windows MCSE to various MCTS.
