IOPS Calculator

I recently needed to calculate the theoretically IOPS of a SATA, SAS and SSD RAID array and started to do this by hand as per Duncan Epping posts here on yellow-bricks but the chance for error was high as I am no maths genius so I started to look around for a quick and simple calculator.

My Googling led me to few useful posts which I have summarized below.

The first was at wmarrow.com written by Marek Wołynko which provides a web page to work out the IOPS based on the RAID and HD technology and a few other metrics but i wanted to have something local to my laptop and accessible without an internet connection.

After further searching I came across a spreadsheet at www.techish.net written by Rich Kreider which provided just what i needed. You can specify all the necessary information and it will give you an estimate as to the Frontend and Backend IOPS based on the type of disk, RAID and quantity of disks in the RAID.

You can download the original spreadsheet from the blog post but it had an error in the formula for calculating the SSD IOPS which I have fixed in the below download.

Hello, in this calculator how the backend IOPS calculated? back end IOPs can differ with the array controller model(Cache size, speed etc)?
